"My daughter Lila came to me looking worried. She'd used an AI image generator to create a picture of a 'beautiful person' for a school project, and every single image it produced showed a young, thin, white woman. She said, 'It feels… wrong. Like it's saying other people aren't beautiful.' I could have just said, 'Yes, it's biased,' and moved on. But instead, I saw an opening. We spent the next hour talking about it. Who chose the pictures the AI learnt from? What does 'beautiful' even mean, and who gets to decide? It turned into one of the deepest conversations we've ever had. She ended up changing her project to be about AI bias, using the images as her evidence. I realised that these tricky moments with technology aren't problems to be solved. They're invitations to talk about our values."
