"My son came home from school last year and told me that his computing teacher said AI was going to make half of all jobs redundant by the time he graduated. He was fifteen. He sat at the dinner table that evening and barely spoke. I asked him what was wrong and he said: 'What's the point of working hard if everything I'm learning will be obsolete?' I didn't have a ready answer. But I stayed up that night thinking about it, and what I came back to was this: the one thing that has never been made redundant is the ability to keep learning. My grandfather was a typesetter. He lost that job to the photocomposition machine in the late 1970s. He retrained as a printer. He lost that job to digital printing. He retrained again as a graphic designer. He worked until he was 72. Not because he was exceptional. Because he was curious. That is what I told my son the next morning. And it landed."

The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 contains a statistic that should be on every parent's wall: on average, 39% of a worker's existing skills will be transformed or become outdated by 2030. Not a few skills. Two in five.

The right response to that number isn't despair. It's a clear-eyed understanding of what the alternative looks like: a person who knows how to learn.
